Modern Art Wedding Shoot in Every Shade of Blue
This editorial styled shoot was inspired by the vision of a really modern couple that wanted an intimate wedding celebration that felt timeless but also was inspired by monotone modern art. The shoot was designed around an ode to the color blue and clean lines to feel classic and timeless but also luxurious and modern. This shoot has been featured on Green Wedding Shoes, you can view the feature here.
I wanted to design a shoot that really leaned into one color and blue is such a classic and yet modern color that can really incorporate a variety of shades. The elegant convertible jumpsuit with a removable overskirt and classic big bow in ice blue by Alexia Maria was the centerpiece to the shoot and all the details evolved to compliment the editorial. The model, Dorine, whose natural beauty is striking was enhanced by Carina Powers Beauty with elegant blue eyes to pop against the blue setting. To accompany the statement convertible jumpsuit gown the groom model was in a classic white tuxedo from Generation Tux.
To compliment the model’s natural striking beauty Seascape Florals created a statement bouquet and complimenting dried floral crown to really create a unique bridal experience for the modern and fashion forward bride wanting to push artistic interpretations of the color blue.
The modern, bright Studio Q was the perfect setting to create this art-focused shoot. The film and digital hybrid photographer, AGS Photo Art, really wanted to incorporate a painted backdrop, given the modern art inspiration. She worked with Suzy Peirce Art to custom create the perfect blue hand painted backdrop that would serve as the backdrop for the gorgeous model couple as well as the many details.
For stationary, I found the work of Jay Monique Creative on instagram and immediately knew we had to include it. Their one of a kind origami inspired stationary is modern yet simple, clean and the linen paper feels luxurious, making it a work of art in and of itself. Even though they are based in London they were eager to participate and created the perfect invitation suite and origami folded envelope and gift boxes for the look.
The tablescape design was inspired by bringing the texture of the modern art paintings to life in a long texture filled with florals sprawling down the table. By using a mix of textures like soft velvet linens from La Tavola with swirled blue glass chargers from BBJ LInens and painted blue florals by Seascape flowers the tablescape became a work of art in its own right. To add that opulent feel the table was finished out with modern gold rentals from Chic Event rental.
Forage Vintage Rentals provided a small lounge in a lush deep blue velvet color and Tart and Tin created a statement cake that took inspiration from the hand painted back drop by bringing the bold brush strokes to a 3D Styling using dyed wafer paper. The Jewelry was the perfect icing on the proverbial blue cake, the local renowned goldsmith provided blue sapphire earrings and wedding ring for the shoot and it was show stopping.
At magic hour we ventured down to Big Sur briefly to capture the couple along the rugged cliffs and capture the natural blue of the ocean to complement the blue styling. Big Sur is the perfect location for wedding of a modern couple wanting to embrace art, the ocean and natural beauty.
